Today is the second installment of My Big Fat Engagement’s feature on Las Vegas events.

The Vegas Theme Wedding

Last week we described why Las Vegas is the Perfect Stage for a Stagette (December 2, 2008). This week we look at a Las Vegas Wedding involving a man, a woman, two kids, a pirate ship and several knights in shining armor.

Shawna answers some questions about her fun wedding below (with some extra information added by me, since I was fortunate enough to be there!). 17 people went down to Vegas for her wedding, which took place on September 2, 2007.

Where was the ceremony?

Shawna: The pirate ship at Treasure Island

Where was the reception?

Shawna: The Buffet at Treasure Island.

Did the trip include any other scheduled group activities other than the main events?

Shawna: A bunch of us checked out the Tournament of Kings at Excalibur… which was really cool.

Me: I admit I thought we were just going to this show for the kids but I had as much fun as they did. You get to eat chicken with your fingers, drink beer out of big mugs, and watch really handsome men dressed up as knights riding around on horses. What more could a girl want?

The Tournament of Kings jousting dinner show is at the Excalibur Hotel – here is a sneak peek:

Why did you select Las Vegas?

Shawna: Vegas is all about fun. We wanted a celebration and nothing to do with any type of religion.

Did you do it yourself or use a wedding planner for organizing?

Shawna: I did it all myself.

Do you have any advice for people considering a similar event?

Shawna: Plan before you go so that you can relax with your pals while you’re there. It’s really easy to plan a complete Vegas wedding beforehand.

What was your most memorable moment of the trip?

Shawna: Finding out that we lost our marriage license.

Oops!

Shawna: I [also] liked the pirate swinging down with the rings, that was entertaining.

What’s one thing you might do differently or one thing you wish you had known beforehand?

Shawna: Kids aren’t allowed on the pirate ship…and I really wanted mine there.

The pirates did appear in some pictures with the kids after the ceremony (not on the ship).

Kids and Las Vegas wouldn’t have occurred to me before attending this fun wedding weekend. The kids enjoyed the pool at the hotel, the pirate ship, and the many other kid friendly attractions. Guests of all ages had a fantastic time on this trip.

Thanks Shawna!
